It was a long story about me coming to Australia. Then I was only ten years old. It was about one month before the Tian An Mien Square massacre, having our documents being sent to the Embassy for the final approval, the Officer wanted to have an interview to decide on this matter; however my grandmother was in Hong Kong at the time, and the interview was appointed the next day; if we missed out on it, we will not be able to obtain the visa and come to Australia. Therefore she had to catch the overnight train home and go for the interview the next day.

As you all know at the time I was little and had no idea what was going on. When we arrived at the Embassy gates, there were guards carrying guns, so I tuck behind my grandmother and walked behind her as I entered; I took a peep at the guard, amazingly he did the same, but that look was so serious, and i was very freaked out and turned away.

During the interview, I just sat there and was trying to listen to the conversation between the officer and my uncle, I attempted so hard, but did not understand a word they said because they spoke in English. In no time, everyone stood up and were shaking hands, so I knew that it came to an end. As we went out the door I asked my uncle how did that go, he said follow your fate. What did that mean-I had no idea. As I grew up older, i began to understand what it meant-my uncle was not too confident on the outcome of the whole thing and that is why he said it! However grace and thanks to the Lord our father, the visa was approved the next day.

Well you might think everything is alright now, the rest would have been easy-you know buy the tickets, pack luggage and the blah blah blah stuff! I have told you before that it was during May 1989, one month before the massacre, the security was so tight in every city, and there were rallies everywhere and all roads were blocked and all shops were closed. For a whole month we won't  able buy an airline ticket, everyone was worried because if we do not leave by the required date we will lose our visa. Then God's power was shown again as He gave the tickets to us through our aunt's friend.

Everything was set. yes you guessed it something happened again, there were no taxi available because of the rallies; the airport was very far form our home, we could not go there by foot; this was really heart breaking because there was no way that we would have got to the airport on time even we have started walking two days ago. Just as we were sorrowing on our misfortune, God, our Father came to the rescue - my aunt's friend drove a van and brought us to the airport. However on the way we were intercepted by the rally students and the van came to a halt. The driver said that the students will be here for a long time and  you have to walk to the airport. This was ok as the airport was only five minutes away, we thank the driver and headed for it!

Eventually we arrived at the airport, and when all the necessary boarding procedures have been done, my grandmother, Ting (my cousin) and I boarded the plane! It was till later did I found out that plane was the last one to come out of Shanghai till the end of the year 1989. This made think how lucky I am and how thankful shall I to the Lord, our Father.

Praise the Lord

"Our Father in Heaven, Holy be your name, Your kingdom come, you will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven, Give us today our daily bread, Forgive our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us, He does not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from Evil, For the Kingdom, the Power, the Glory are all yours, Now and Forever!

Amen
